Merhaba!
I'm Sezin from Turkey, and one day I made a decision that would shape my life in ways I couldn't have imagined.
I joined the ESC volunteer program through Erasmus+ and became part of the İZUM organization in Estonia. What seemed like just an exciting opportunity at first turned out to be a journey of self-discovery, connection, and countless unforgettable moments.
From the very first day, I realized that volunteering was not just about giving—it was also about receiving. Working with children aged 4 to 15,
I found myself learning just as much as I was teaching. Through games, workshops, theater performances, and cultural activities, I saw the world through their eyes—filled with curiosity, joy, and endless energy. I had the chance to bring my own passions into the project, sharing my culture, experiences, and creativity while also embracing the Estonian way of life.
Of course, it wasn't always easy. The language barrier was a real challenge at first, and there were moments of frustration when I struggled to express myself or understand others. But over time, I realized that communication is more than just words.
A smile, a shared laugh, or a simple gesture could bridge the gaps between us. I learned to be patient with myself, to embrace the unknown, and to grow through discomfort.
Being a volunteer is also to have the chance to see the world differently. I learned the meaning of connection beyond language, the importance of community, and the beauty of small moments—like a child’s laughter during a game, a heartfelt thank-you after a workshop, or a quiet walk through the charming streets of Estonia.
Now, as my time here comes to an end, I already feel the weight of "missing." Missing the people, the routine, the challenges, and the simple yet profound joy of being part of something bigger than myself.
To anyone considering volunteering: take the leap. This experience will shape you, challenge you, and fill your heart with memories you’ll carry forever.
Aitäh, Estonia, for this incredible journey!
