In January, our ESC volunteer from Germany, Mattis, left us. He decided to continue his long-term volunteer service within the European Solidarity Corps program framework with another organization in Pärnu. He had been with our organization for five months (from September to January), and we would like to share what he was involved in at our center and what he accomplished as a volunteer:
👉Worked with children and youth of our IZUM center.
👉Participated in various projects, master classes, and events in IZUM youth club.
👉Taught German language at a local school
👉Assisted the teacher in English lessons at IZUM hobby school
👉Assisted the teacher in Estonian lessons at IZUM hobby school
👉Created a series of podcasts about opportunities for youth
👉Participated in the Youth Media Forum in Narva
👉Organized events for children and youth at the IZUM center
👉Was a friend for 4-year-old children at ABC school.
We thank our partners - MTÜ EstYES for coordinating this project. 🙏
Mattis Hagmann:
Everything is about Time. And yet, we have so much of it. We are born, and it passes, slowly. Every minute is a new day, every day is an entire new year waiting to be filled with experiences, emotions, and life.
Everything is about Us. No matter how much freedom we are gifted or how much freedom we fight for, we will never be free from ourselves, our gazes, our needs, our desires.
Everything is about Emotion. Each moment has a face we can remember, photograph, and store. But to truly live a moment, we must experience it. We must be part of the moment, inseparable.
Everything is about the Out. Now that we’ve clarified what time is, who we are, and how we can experience, the question arises: What do we experience at any given point in our seemingly endless lives? Do we experience the world, or do we only experience ourselves within it? Or perhaps we simply experience the ticking clock on the wall, tirelessly moving toward the end of the working day.
Everything is about the New. For us as volunteers, Estonia is new, Lasnamäe is new, IZUM is new. And that is an opportunity, a chance to stop digging deeper into the trenches of our own fate, wherever in Europe it may lie. It is a chance to give something to others and to receive something in return: acceptance, recognition, gratitude, care. You can weave a new destiny for yourself, or have it woven for you, if you are truly ready for it.
Everything is about Experience. We are born only once. We grow up only once. We understand the world the first time only once. We fall in love for the first time only once. And we leave behind the comfortzone of our familiar lives for the very first time only once. This must be understood, the significance it holds for your life, your precious time. This year will be a time that changes, especially if you do not force it.
In the end, everything is about the time. You lived.
