Բարև ձեզ: My name is Ellie, and I had the privilege of volunteering in Izum through the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program. Over the course of my eight-month project, I had the opportunity to engage in numerous activities and connect with incredible individuals from whom I learned invaluable skills, particularly in working with youth and preschool-aged children. Izum provided me with many opportunities to demonstrate my capabilities and contribute meaningfully to the community.
One of my primary roles was serving as a "friend" to the children at ABC School, in addition to assisting the teachers. This area of work became my main focus, as I was present at the school nearly every day. During this time, I formed close bonds with the children and taught them various subjects, ranging from simple facts to cultural differences, along with basic English vocabulary and the significance of learning languages.
In addition to my work at ABC School, I assisted in art lessons at the Izum Hobby School, supporting the art teacher with preschool and primary school classes a few times per week. I also contributed to English lessons, enriching them by offering my own insights and ideas to make the learning experience more engaging.
A large portion of my work involved engaging with preschoolers. One notable project was "Learning from Fairy Tales," where I assisted in organizing and conducting the lessons. Another significant contribution was my participation in the "Zaytsev's Cubes" lessons, which took place on a weekly basis.
Throughout the summer, I worked in various summer camps, participating in six camps overall—both in urban and suburban settings.
Additionally, I organized and presented an international bakery stand at the Izum charity event, which was a rewarding experience.
Lastly, I played an active role in organizing and participating in various events hosted by the Youth Club.
I will be forever grateful for this opportunity. Being a volunteer in Izum is being a part of the big family, who will cherish you and take care of you. Thank you for everything.
For 8 months, Gohar managed to do a lot in our organization, and we want to share with you what she did as a volunteer:
Worked with children and youth of our IZUM center at an open youth work.
Worked in the @izumlaager camp during school holidays.
Participated in various projects, master classes, and events in IZUM youth club.
At the IZUM hobby school @izumhuvikool, she helped conduct "Learning from Fairytales" and "Zaytsev's Cubes."
Was a friend for 4 year old children at ABC school.
Organized and presented an international bakery stand at the IZUM charity fair.
Before Gohar's departure, ABC school students arranged a party for her, where they said thanks to her for the time together, give gifts, and say goodbye.
We thank our partners - MTÜ EstYES for coordinating this project.
