Youth Exchange “FOMO – Find Opportunities in the MOment”

From August 26th to September 2nd, the scenic town of Tammispea hosted a dynamic youth exchange centered on mental health, designed to help young people embrace the present and find joy in the moment without the fear of missing out.

The project brought together 25 participants from Estonia, Finland, Spain, Romania, and the Czech Republic, all focused on exploring the phenomenon of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)—what it is, how it shows up in different aspects of life, and the ways it affects mental well-being. Throughout the exchange, participants developed strategies to overcome FOMO and reduce anxiety, gaining practical tools for mental resilience.

Key learning areas included:
  • Understanding FOMO: what it is and its impact
  • Insights into mental health practices in various countries
  • Building self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Understanding anxiety and effective coping mechanisms

Participants engaged with these topics through interactive methods such as:
  • Forum theatre to break stereotypes around mental health
  • Debates and discussions on managing anxiety
  • Art therapy, including drawing fears and creating FOMO-themed crafts
  • Beach meditation and anti-stress activities like mandala coloring
  • A treasure hunt designed to reflect the FOMO theme

Beyond learning about FOMO and anxiety management, the exchange provided an immersive experience where participants truly practiced living in the moment. Upon returning home, they’ve been organizing events within their own communities to share these newfound insights, helping others understand the risks of FOMO and how to counter its effects.

A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated team from IZUM and to all the participants for their enthusiastic engagement in this transformative experience!
