HUMAN LIBRARY
Human Library Estonia, managed by NGO Youth Club Active, is an official representative of Human Library Organization in Estonia, having received formal accreditation and recognition from the method developers in November 2018. All our events are compliant with Human Library concept and methodology regulations, and we aim to provide a quality experience for our Books and Readers. Our goal is to challenge stereotypes and prejudices, which often lead to stigma and discrimination, and to promote respect for diversity in local community. We offer our open events free of charge.
Human Library - is not your usual library: in the frames of this event it is people who play the role of Books. The aim of this event is to raise awareness of the population about a variety of social groups that are often discriminated or prejudiced against. The Books can be on such topics as religious and moral ideologies, different professions and hobbies, special needs of all kinds, sexual and ethnic minorities, and many more. The Living Books are ready and willing to share their stories in an open and honest positive dialogue.

WHAT IS THE HUMAN LIBRARY?
The Human Library isn’t your typical library. Instead of borrowing books, you borrow people. These Living Books share stories about their lives, providing Readers with a unique chance to engage in open, honest, and positive dialogue.

Books can represent a wide range of topics, including:
  • Religious or moral beliefs
  • Unconventional professions or hobbies
  • Special needs
  • Sexual and ethnic minorities
…and much more.

Readers have the opportunity to form their own opinions through personal interaction, breaking free from stereotypes often shaped by media or societal narratives.

The Human Library aims to:
  • Raise awareness about various social groups that are often misunderstood or marginalized.
  • Create a safe space for learning and connection, fostering understanding among people who may appear different but share the same world.
